Multi-currency frequently asked questions
No. The parent/sub-organization relationship is a billing relationship, so they must have the same currency.
If you use QuickBooks, it definitely will. Autotask will continue to pass the values on the invoice (or the values that were approved and posted, depending on your accounting software) to your accounting software. As long as your accounting software is supporting Multi-currency, and each customer is set up with the same currency in both systems, you should have no problems.
Many integrations use the Autotask API, and we have upgraded the API to expose all relevant fields.
Yes. As in the web application, costs appear in the internal currency, and prices and billable amounts in the customer currency.
Yes. Please refer to the documentation for The Autotask Web Services API in Developer Help for SOAP API, REST API, ExecuteCommand API and Report Data Warehouse.
Here is the complete list of supported currencies. You will then activate the currencies your company is doing business in.
You can change the currency you assigned to a customer as long as you have never approved and posted for the organization. Any pending amounts for products, services and charges will remain the same, but the currency symbol will be changed. A billable amount of 100 € will become 100 £. Billable labor, on the other hand, will be updated to use the hourly rates and work types of the new currency.
If you want to change the currency for an existing customer, you will need to enlist our help. Refer to Transitioning existing customers and vendors to Multi-currency.
If Multi-currency is enabled, each currency field displays a label called a Currency indicator that marks which currency the field represents.
Not necessarily. When you create a new organization and select a country that is associated with a currency, that currency is the default. You can override it at the organization level by selecting a different currency.
No, not even by Datto. Multi-currency is forever.
You can either create separate price lists for each of your active currencies, or allow prices for organizations with customer currencies to be calculated using the exchange rate. Refer to Set prices for billing items in other currencies (when Multi-currency is enabled).
When you enable Multi-currency and select an internal currency, all existing financial data is assigned the internal currency.
If the same currency display symbol is used for both US and Canadian dollars and neither is your internal currency, the currencies' three letter name will be used, that is USD and CAD. If one of them is your internal currency, that one will display as the symbol, and the other one will be using the three letter name.
This will apply to all pages where the currency display symbol appears, except for the following pages which always display the symbol, even if it is a duplicate:
- published quotes
- the View/Edit Quote Items page
- the Quote Preview page
- published invoices
- the Invoice Preview page
- all Client Portal pages
The positive and negative currency formats used will be the formats selected on the System Settings page. Refer to System settings for site setup.
