About this runbook
Datto knows that our partners with five or fewer employees have limited resources they can devote to setting up Autotask. We have configured an Autotask instance for you so you can get started right away, and have populated it with options that work for most small MSPs. This Autotask instance also contains a set of demo data that makes it easier to learn about Autotask. The organizations we have added, and any data that you will be adding, like tickets, time entries, etc. can be deleted when you are ready to take off the training wheels. Are you ready to begin?

Getting started

People in your local organization will work in one or more of the following roles:
- Business Owner: Keeps track of the overall picture: employees, customers, industry intelligence. He or she often manages all other roles.
- Technician: Delivers services to the customer and serves as the face of the local organization to the customer.
- Service Manager: Coordinates the work of the technicians.
- Finance Manager: Manages the accounting end of things, including contract setup and invoicing.
Of course, the reality in many small organizations is that some or all team members perform a variety of functions. This is especially true of the business owner. If your responsibilities align neatly with one of the roles, use the appropriate section of this guide to learn about how to use Autotask for your job. If you perform additional functions, you may need to read part or all of other sections.
